Clyde, NZ

Original bokeh oil painting

A small oil painting with a quiet presence: this original artwork depicts the main street of Clyde, a small Central Otago town shaped by its gold-mining past. Historic buildings line either side of the road, their forms softened by night, while a few car lights trace gentle movement through the scene.

Painted in my signature blurry bokeh style, the town is not rendered as a specific place so much as a feeling of small towns as evening settles. Still, familiar, and quietly glowing. A painting where memory and recognition blend together.

About the painting

Painted on a 6 x 6 inch boxed canvas, this piece features a hand-painted gold border that echoes Clyde’s gold-mining heritage, framing the understated street view with warmth and subtle richness. Soft bokeh light occasionally drifts into the gold edge, as though the town’s past and present are gently dissolving into one another.

The gold detailing gives the work a jewel-like finish, elevating the simplicity of the scene into something quietly precious.

Beautiful displayed as is on a shelf or wall, or styled in a shadow box or tray-style frame for a refined, gallery-like presentation.

Bokeh does 2 things:

  1. It magnifies - the soft focus allows light & beauty to grow, and
  2. It simplifies - the art takes the focus off 'sharp edges' and 'nitty gritty details'.
