Historic Clyde, NZ
Original bokeh oil painting
This small original artwork depicts the main street of Clyde, a small Central Otago town shaped by its gold-mining past. Softly lit - and softly focused - historic buildings and trees line the road.
Painted in oils, in my signature blurry bokeh style, the town is not a specific place so much as the feeling of a small town in the growing twilight. Still, familiar, and quietly glowing. A painting where memory and recognition blend together.

About the painting
Painted on a 6 x 6 inch boxed canvas, this piece features a hand-painted gold border that echoes Clyde’s gold-mining heritage, framing the understated street view with warmth and subtle richness. Soft bokeh light occasionally drifts into the gold edge, as though the town’s past and present are gently dissolving into one another.
The gold edge shimmers as you move around the painting, elevating the simplicity of the scene into something quietly precious.
Presented in a lovely box - perfect for gifting - but ultimately to display on a shelf or wall, or frame in a shadow box or tray-style frame for a refined, gallery-like presentation.
Bokeh does 2 things:
- It magnifies - the soft focus allows light & beauty to grow, and
- It simplifies - the art takes the focus off 'sharp edges' and 'nitty gritty details'.
