Collection: Bokeh paintings

What is 'Bokeh'?

Bokeh comes from a Japanese word, translating literally as ‘blur’. It’s the pleasant effect you get from an unfocused background or from the softness of the lighting in an image. Typically a photography term, Mel is making an artform out of painting bokeh.

Bokeh features an absence of harsh or sharp details - and shows up most beautifully in small background highlights e.g. the light catching on water droplets or filtering through a tree canopy. In these paintings Mel is capturing colour and light in camera initially before transforming these into mesmerising oil paintings and prints to bring this softness of gaze and magical light into your home.

Mel regards her bokeh perspective as a metaphor for a way of looking for the good and beauty in your world, overlooking harsh realities and trivial details.
